Organizing Your Bookshelves

Organizing your bookshelf will depend on your end goal. Are you aiming to keep only books on the bookshelf? Would you like your bookshelf to be decorative instead of providing a library look to your room? Enjoy home improvement tips that are easy and fun to help you organize your bookshelves.

  • First, think of the image you would like your room to portray. Are you wanting to portray a library or reading room image? Perhaps you need a bookshelf to hold your television set for your living room. Once you decide the room design you are aiming for, head over to your favorite furniture store and pick up a bookshelf that can meet your needs.
  • What do you want to display on your bookshelves? Are you looking for bookshelves to only hold your books? Are you looking for a bookshelf that will hold your favorite author's book collection? On the other hand, are you looking to hold books, knickknacks and photos to give your room a decorative look? Whatever you would like to display, verify your bookshelves' endurance. Will your bookshelf hold heavy books or a heavy fish tank? Will your bookshelves bow inward after several years of holding your books? These are important questions to consider prior to organizing your bookshelf with books and your favorite ornaments.
  • Old bookshelves can still provide you with an economical way to organize your books and favorite room ornaments. Grab a can of paint that will enhance your room. Perhaps a bright color will open up your room and present a more spacious look to your living area. Sanding, wood putty, and paint can do much to enhance your old bookshelves, making them beautiful and useful.
  • Organizing your bookshelves can be easily done. Categorizing your books by author, genre, or size can make your bookshelves look orderly. Books can also be arranged by book size. Placing shorter books and then taller books can provide a more uniformed look to your bookshelves.
  • Do you like to recycle books due to space constraints? Take your books to stores that will pay you for your books. Several bookstores will take in your books and give you store credit for you to pick up other books. Keeping your bookshelves alive with new books is a great way to keep up with new books and maintain a well-organized bookshelf due to the continual use.

Make bookshelf organization enjoyable. Pulling out photos that make you reminisce great times and books that have given you hours of pleasure can be a fun way to spend an afternoon rearranging your bookshelves. Providing your room with a makeover due to organized bookshelves can be rewarding and exciting.
