Have you ever noticed how having to move is almost always a stressful situation? Unfortunately having to move quickly is even more stressful for the unprepared. Moving quickly is stressful, usually because you have an extremely limited amount of time to get everything ready to go, and can't take the time to make sure you have all of your possessions properly packed up. However, there are a few things that you can do which will make the process a little less stressful, and easier than it normally would be. Simply follow these guidelines, and you will be amazed at how much easier everything is going to be.
- Let everyone know. When moving quickly, one of the first things that you should do is to pull out your address book, or contact list, and let everyone know that you are moving. Often times, this will bring you some additional help that you can use to begin packing, and make moving easier. At the very least, this will allow your friends and business colleagues know that you will not be in town for much longer. At this time, you should also get a moving packet from your local post office and fill it out, which will allow you to leave a forwarding address and ensure that you get all the mail that you are supposed to.
- Begin packing. As soon as possible, begin packing. Make sure that you have any and all breakable items packed properly so that they will not break accidentally while in transit. Save time packing any clothing or other fabric by simply stuffing it all in to large garbage sack. If at all possible, have some friend's or family help you pack things up.
- Use a storage facility. If you don't have enough time to find a new home or place to stay before you move, then hire a storage facility. The storage facility will allow you to secure your possessions until you are able to find a new place to live, and will cost a lot less than continuing to pay rent or a mortgage. Surprisingly, if you tell your story about needing to move at a moments notice you can often get a discount on the rates for your storage facility.
- Hire movers. When you have enough time, hire some movers to come in and help you transport your possessions. This will go above and beyond having your friends help you move, since it will lower the chances of you being left in the lurch if a friend is unable to come over and help you move that piano or couch. Frankly, when moving quickly there is no such thing as having too much help.
