Organizing Your Garden Shed

Garden sheds are supposed to help us out by storing all of the tools, equipment, and doodads that we use to keep our yards and garden looking great. Unfortunately, there is an inherent problem with many garden sheds: they can very easily become a cluttered mess. Organizing your garden shed is a relatively easy task and one that should be done regularly. After all, your tools and everything else in your shed is an investment. In the long run, organizing your shed properly will let you know exactly where everything is so you can save time, money, and frustration.

• Trash can. One of the best possible items that you can use to help organize your garden shed is a garbage or trash can. What you want to do is get the largest refuse can that you can find, and use it to store all your long-handled tools and gardening implements in. For example, you can use it to store your rakes, shovels, brooms, hoes, and so on. Simply stick them in by the handle, and you will be able to easily fit as many as you need and identify each tool at a glance.
• Hooks. You can purchase large, heavy-duty hooks at your local home improvement store. Pick a few of these up and use them to hold your wheelbarrow or other large pieces of equipment. This way you will be able to walk around easily in your shed and have free floor space. Some of the other items that you can hang off of these hooks are things weed whackers, lawn mower attachments, hedge trimmers, and so on.
• Sand. A great way to store, polish, and generally take care of your garden tools all at the same time is to use a little sand. Get a large metal tub, or a large bucket, and fill it halfway full with sand, and pour in a quart or two of oil. Mix it all together, and you will then have the perfect way to clean, polish, and maintain your metal tools. Simply stick your tools into the sand till you cannot see any more metal, and then the next time you remove your tools wipe it down really quick. You will find that the tool is shiny and clean, as well as having been protected from any rust.

The best time to organize your garden shed is in the early spring, when the weather is nice and cool. However, if you have some spare time during the winter months, then use that time to organize your garden shed.
