Get Organized

Written by Lee Wyatt (last updated June 17, 2021)

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where it seems like everything just went out of control? If you have ever been faced with period of your life where, in the words of the great Calvin and Hobbes, everything has gone "kablooie," then you know exactly how frustrating and annoying it can be when you feel like you have no control over anything. Well, the answer to this problem lies in your being able to get organized. If you want to get organized, then just follow these simple guidelines, and you will be able to get your life back on track.

  • Create goals. One of the best possible ways to begin getting your life organized is to create some goals. By creating goals you are able to create something for yourself to work towards. Create not only long term goals, but short term goals as well. The best way to create achievable long term goals is to actually break down the long term goal into a bunch of shorter term goals that you can easily check off as you accomplish them.
  • Take time to plan. Set aside a "planning time" each day, week, month, and year. These planning sessions don't need to be particularly long, or drawn out. Rather, give yourself time to go over the coming day, week, month, or year and figure out how you can make your goals a reality. Also at this time, create a schedule of what you will be doing throughout the day, week, month or year to ensure that you have time fore everything you have planned.
  • Periodically review plans. Just because you have made a goal, and written it down, does not mean that it is set in stone. Be sure that you periodically take time to review your goals, and make sure that you still want them. Keep in mind that sometimes life happens, and you have to make adjustments for it.
  • Set aside time for family. As you are scheduling your life, be sure that you have actually set aside time for your family (if you have one). Being able to adequately juggle your personal life and your work life will require scheduling at times, and can actually help things to go smoother if you know when you have important business or family functions coming up.
  • Set aside time for personal use. Just as it is important to set aside time for your family, and your work, it is also a good idea to set aside personal time. This would be the time that you can use to recharge your batteries, take a breath, or simply veg out and relax from all the stress and worry that can come in life.
