Organize Clothes Storage in Your Closet

You know what? Clothes are great, they are wonderful! I love them, and I have got to have them. I am always out and about looking for, and getting new, clothes and outfits. There is just one problem that I have with clothes, and that is that I never really seem to be able to know where to find what I want. (My wife said that is why I am always going out looking for new things.) In an attempt to change that practice (and on a dare from my wife) I decided to try organizing my closet a little better, and was just a tad surprised to find how much that really helped out—I don't think that my wife is going to ever let me live it down. Here are a few of the things that I found to be a huge help.

One of the types of clothes that I like the most is hats. They're great aren't they? Well, unfortunately they take quite up quite a bit of room. Noticing this, I tried to hang them from the wall. In order to accomplish this, I got a piece of pegboard and hung it in the closet. I then placed various pegs into the peg board to hang my hats from, and voila, a perfect place to store and display my hats. This trick could very easily be modified for other items as well, like handbags or belts.

During the winter months I got really tired of rummaging through the hall closet for mittens, scarves, or caps. So, what I ended up doing was using this pretty neat solution. I got one of those cheap plastic shoe bags that you always see at stores like Wal-Mart and Target. By hang that shoe bag on the inside of the closet door, and placing mine and my kid's winter items in the pockets, I created a wonderful—and seasonal—storage place. I would suggest utilizing one made of clear plastic so you can see everything at a glance.

Another way that I found that you can increase your closet space would be to hang all of your shorter garments (such as folded pants or skirts) at one end of the closet. This can give you room to hang another bar, or even place a small chest of drawer inside the closet. One of the ways that you can hang another bar would be to drop a shower curtain ring over each of the hangers and place another hanger through the loop of the ring. Utilizing this method you can effectively double the size of any closet.

Finally, I found that the best of all possible solutions was to rotate my wardrobe. If I found myself not using certain clothes, then I needed to place them into storage. By doing this I was able to free up quite a bit of room, not to mention deal with that recurring urge to shop. Being able to pull out some "new" wardrobe options every three months is almost like being able to go on a shopping spree.
