Tips for Plastic Containers

Summary: Plastic containers, such as those from Tupperware, are wonderful little things for storing food and other items. Unfortunately, I have noticed that these things themselves tend to take up quite a bit of space themselves. Here is the best way that I found to do just that.

The other day I went through my kitchen cabinets and was totally surprised to find jus how much of my storage space was taken up by these spacing saving plastic devices. I mean, really. Why can't these things just stay where we want them to? It's almost like they have a mind of their own, and they just won't listen to reason. Needless to say, this situation was just a tad annoying, and I felt the need to do something about it. So, I decided to go ahead and try to organize them. While I was doing this, I soon realized that I had come across something that could apply to all rooms in the house, where plastic containers were being used for organization and storage.

In order to begin, it soon became apparent that I would need to decide on what room was in need for the most organizational help. Well, since I was in the kitchen when this brainstorm hit me I decided that I would begin in that room. My first order of business was to collect all of the plastic containers and their lids, which were not currently in use, in one location. This enabled me to try and match up as many complete non-damaged sets of containers as possible. It occurred to me that I could free up a whole lot of space if I got rid of the incomplete or damaged sets.

After matching together these sets, I then I then gathered a few strong elastic bands and separated the lids and containers by size. For the lids, this was a rather simple matter, since all I had to do was simply find all the lids that had the same size or shape and place them together. Using the elastic bands to hold the lids together, I found myself able to keep the lids from getting spread out all over the place like they had been before.

The containers themselves proved to be a little trickier in separation and organization. The reason for this was that I could not really stack all the same sized containers together. With some of the containers it was possible to do this, but with a majority of them I had to treat them as if they were those old trick puzzle boxes. This was easy to do as long as I stacked one that was slightly smaller than the previous one. After I had done this, I was able to make sure that each new stack was held together with an elastic band. Again, by being able to do this I ensured that those pesky containers did not get spread all over again.

By using these simple tricks, I was able to take care of a major organizational headache, while also being able to free up a whole lot of space. I can't wait to use this new method I found on my other rooms!
